What diseases do Aedes mosquitoes carry?

Due to Thailand’s hot and humid climate, there are many species of mosquitoes throughout the country, especially the Aedes mosquito. Which is a vector of serious diseases such as dengue fever, which we all know well, as there are quite a few patients with this disease each year, and it can be dangerous to the point of causing death.

1. Dengue fever

Caused by dengue virus, transmitted by female Aedes mosquitoes. 

Prominent symptoms:

  •  High fever 
  •  Nausea, vomiting, pain in the epigastric region or upper right abdomen
  •  Headache, including eye pain 
  •  There are bleeding spots on the body or external bleeding, such as bloody stools, nosebleeds, etc. and there may be bleeding from internal organs, such as brain bleeding from low platelets.


2. Chikungunya disease

Caused by the Chikungunya virus, transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito and the Aedes nigrum mosquito. It is also known as chikungunya disease.

Prominent symptoms: 

  • High fever 
  • Have arthritis, pain in the wrists, ankles, fingers, toes, and other joints.
  • conjunctivitis 
  • Redness of the skin on the face and body, or a red rash on the body

3. Zika fever

Caused by the Zika virus, which is transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito. It can be transmitted from an infected mother to her unborn child or through sexual contact.


Prominent symptoms: 

  • High fever
  • There is a thick rash all over the body.
  • Joint pain, muscle pain
  • conjunctivitis 
  • Often more severe in pregnant women

We can prevent being bitten by mosquitoes as follows:

  • Destroy breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes, especially stagnant water sources.  
  • Change the water in pots or vases regularly.
  • Raising mosquito larvae-eating fish such as สมัคร ufabet guppies, swordtails, and fighting fish in water sources where the water cannot change frequently, such as lotus ponds, etc.
  • Places where water is required, such as cups under the legs of a food cabinet, add salt or vinegar, or sand to kill mosquito larvae.
